What do you write about when you have nothing to write about, but still want to write? I realize that this is probably a good capstone question for the Blaugust initiative, but considering I’m writing this on September 3rd, you can see why I’m not a good blogging role-model.

I had read an article somewhere that said that our modern computer interfaces are terrible because we’re forced to bang out words, letter by letter when we should be looking into a manner of input that focuses on concepts. I guess there’s something there to investigate (right, Dvorak?) but sometimes the slow speed of breaking down a concept into paragraphs made up of sentences comprised of words built from individual letters that must be tap tap tapped out on a keyboard gives us the distance between an ill-formed thought and a written refinement that we need not just to impart a concept to others, but to clarify it to ourselves.

I’ve written a lot of posts that have never been published. Sometimes I get fired up about a topic, throw down 2,000 words and realize that I still haven’t gotten to the point, or that I have actually lost interest in the subject because in the process of organizing it, editing it for “clarity” and “voice”, I either no longer understand what got me all fired up in the first place, or more likely that I have simply gotten it out of my system and no longer care as much. Other times I will start a post with the best of intentions, to take a position, but ultimately question whether or not I want to wade into that particular morass, deciding ultimately that, no, I do not. I am not a fan of controversy, and most of those kinds of unpublished posts are of the “heat of the moment” variety that I wrote about at the start of this paragraph.

It’s days like today where if you happen to have landed here you’re probably wondering what this has to do with any of the usual topics. I wanted to write something but don’t feel that I have much to write about. In that kind of vacuum, this is what “writing for writing’s sake” looks like: it’s paragraphs made up of sentences comprised of words built from individual letters that were tap tap tapped out on a keyboard. That’s pretty much about it.

This actually comprises my thoughts on blogging as of late. If you want to hear about what I’ve been playing, then I played a lot of Guild Wars 2 yesterday, and — believe it or not — a lot of Anthem. I have several other games installed that I want to get to but have it in my head that I should save them for when I’m available to stream them. That’s another topic: streaming. I still haven’t come to terms with whether or not I want to stream, so expect a lot of fits and starts on that front. I’m slowly consuming The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on Netflix, and have mentally queued Carnival Row as my Council of Internet Advisors seem to like it. My motion graphics/VFX work has come to a screeching halt for now as my focus has — surprise! — shifted to a new project which I have been occasionally reporting on here.

All of those potential topics are crammed into one paragraph, whereas you might expect other bloggers to focus on one item in that list to craft a post around. I am finding it hard to do that because I guess even I don’t find any of it interesting enough. Meanwhile, I give you this post, filled to the top with absolutely nothing of substance, as a means of explaining that I have nothing of substance to offer.
